Dear Roadies!

‘DATES FOR YOUR DIARY’
Lots to get through. Firstly, term times:

SPRING TERM: Sat 10th Jan – Fri 3rd April. Half-Term: Mon 16th – Sat 21st Feb
SUMMER TERM: Mon 20th April – Sat 18th July. Half-Term: Mon 25th – Sat 30th May
Bank Holiday: Mon 4th May.
AUTUMN TERM: Mon 7th Sept – Sat 12th December. H.T: Mon 26th – Sat 31st October

We’ve set the 2009 dates for our two grand showcases for our Rok Skool Kids:

SKOOL’S OUT FOR SUMMER! – Wed 22nd & Thurs 23rd July.
COOL YULE SHOW – Wed 16th & Thurs 17th December.

Both shows will be at our fab new venue The Hub. We’re giving you these dates nice and early so that, if your youngster is a band member or a solo singer, you can keep yourselves available. In addition, there will be a showcase at the end of this term for our solo artists currently in Vocal Coaching, plus KEEF! - our band of Mums & Dads. We’re calling it the

ROK SKOOL SPRING SINGING THING!
– Saturday 4th April, Dane Hill Social Club, 8:30 p.m.

Participation in Village Days, Town Days and suchlike are far more ad hoc. As soon as we have information it will be yours, via email.

’E-MAIL’
We need to update you all, on a regular basis, electronically. Some of you are more emaily than others, but this is the most efficient way forward. Therefore, could each and every one of you please send an e-mail to info@rokskool.co.uk that will act as confirmation of your e-mail address. Keep an eye on the website, too.

COOL YULE AT THE HUB
Phew, we did it! Congratulations to all our performers – all 120 of you! Thanks to our voluntary stewards, chaperones and helpers, to the venue – and thanks to you, our unwaveringly supportive army of parents. Stand by for the DVD, hopefully on our shelves by the end of January.

NEW MEMBER OF STAFF
Due to demand, we’ve taken on a new guitar teacher. Joe’s a great guy and musician, who has been teaching guitar in Spain. Welcome to Rok Skool, Joe!

BANDS
We now have 16 bands. Our intention this term, with the older bands at least, is to develop original material and get them in the studio. We will be developing a CD of Rok Skool originals. It also means we will be able to put their work up on the Net. Each band should have a MySpace page. It’s all part of them finding an identity, as a band, for themselves. To this end, we also want to produce a poster, logo etc. So parents: set your kids going on logos and we will then discuss them and decide on the end product.

As for our adult band, it is now dangerously low in the water - with new backing singers and a three piece brass section, talk about a band on ship! Time to start another, methinks. So come on you mums and dads, dust off your glam-rock togs and volunteer for service!

VOCAL COACHING
We’re not just about seven to seventeen year olds – some of the Mums who have started vocal coaching are really enjoying it and because of demand Pat has cleared Monday mornings. So if you’re a mum and you yearn to sing, there’s space for three of you to give it a go! Give us a ring on 484 979.

OTHER STUFF…
We’re expanding! And we’re not just talking about our waistlines… we’re opening in Tunbridge Wells in the near future. If you know anyone who might be interested, let us know.
New pictures are upon our walls. If you’d like copies, let us know.

Are you NOT okay with us using images on our website and publicity etc? Please tell us.
We’d love to link to your website (and vice-versa), if your line of business is in anyway sympatico with ours…

The Macaris @Rok Skool Shop is there for you. What should we stock?

Know any young bass players and singers? We need ‘em! Youngsters all gravitate towards guitar and drums, but bass is just as much fun as guitar. And if your kid can sing – we’ll help them shine through their shyness and front up a band!

Finally, to clear up any misunderstanding and put it in writing, unlike our tuition slots, band fees are not solely calculated on the number of sessions in any given term, but on the overall experience which, apart from those regular sessions, may also include production rehearsals and public performance.

Let’s end on a joke – a musical one. Ahem: Three cheers for Rap Artists – hip-hop…!
Herry
